AbstractThis paper investigates the energy efficiency (EE) of improper Gaussian signaling (IGS) in a K-user interference channel (IC). IGS allows unequal variances and/or correlation between the real and imaginary parts, and it has recently been shown to be advantageous in various interference-limited scenarios. In this paper, we propose an energy-efficient IGS design for the K-user IC, which is based on a separate optimization of the powers and complementary variances of the users. We compare the EE region achieved by the proposed scheme with that achieved by conventional proper signaling and show that IGS can significantly improve the EE region.
